Type Locality and Naming

The type section is the interval from 32.0 m to 288.5 m in the well Wancan 1 at Wancan Commune, Yongji County, Jilin Province. It was named by Liu Dian-Jun et al. in 1992.

It was previously known as the upper “sand- conglomerate member” of Shuiquliu Fm. It is thick and stable and contains abundant sporopollens and Oxidation oil sand. Thus, a separate formation was established for the oil-gas exploration’s sake.


Lithology and Thickness

It is characterized by the greenish mudstone and varicoloured sandy conglomerates. The thickness varied from 200 m to 500 m, with the maximum thickness of 839.5 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The Chaluhe Fm is in faulted contact with the underlying Wanchang Fm.

Upper contact

The Chaluhe Fm is in unconformable contact with the overlying Quaternary deposits.

Regional extent

The Chaluhe Fm is distributed in Yitong- Shulan area in Jilin Province.
